Chao Phraya River, Bangkok.
Due to the most thai cannot communicate well in English, and those able to communicate in english are tours operators (they want you to join their boat trip package). So having a hard time understanding how the boat system works @ the Chao Phraya River, Bangkok. After getting a right person to talk to at the Tha Chang Pier, beside the Grand Palace. finally figured out how it works.
Boat type #1, Long Boat- Operates by the tour operators, expensive and meant for those rich ang mo's and tourists with package sign up from agency back home only.
Boat Type #2, Cross River Ferry - just to crossover to the opposite banks only. usually 2 destination on the opposite bank, 1 stop upstream and 1 stop downstream. cost about 3B.
Boat type #3, Express Ferry, divided into 2 type, 1 is the normal ferry travels across all pier along the river. (cost is 13B per entry) and 2nd type tourist ferry, which only stopsover at a few piers only but there will be a guide on board explaining to you what are available on both side on the banks and you can get down at any pier they stop to go to your desired station. Cost is 25B single trip, 1 day pass 150B, 2 day pass, 250B.
I would suggest single trip, because with that price you can travel to and fro 3times with the 150B. Do you think you will waste so much time on this boat?
Tuk- tuk in Thailand
A Unique public transport in Thailand. Considered cheap- within the city area i always quote them 100B without fail they will accept, if they reject there will always be a second person that will agree to go, but need to take note of the trick available from the drivers especially during the day-time.
Design varies from town to town, top one are from Ayuthaya, and bottom one are found in Bangkok.
Personally i encountered the following situations.
Whenever they stop halfway on your way to your desired destinations it is confirms that they are up to something. Either they want to bring you to some jewellery shop, tailor shop, souvenier shop...... whenever you agree there will be no end to these visit, one follows another..or they will offer to bring you to some tour agency for local tours....... reject them in the first place....
Various reasons will be given by them, the place will not open so early lah, closed for today due to buddha birthday, no train going there for today.........riots around the area....
